Podcast Interview with Kevin W. McCarthy

May 10, 2008 By kwmccarthy

This is a link to a podcast interview with the "non-guru" of personal development, Greg Voisen.  Our interview took place on August 3, 2007 and focused on purpose for life and work.

From Greg Voisen, "Fifteen years ago my life was certainly not balanced. I was constantly
working and was not paying attention to my health or my family. I was
on a collision course and headed toward self destruction. I was in
tremendous personal pain and really did not know where to go or who to
turn too."

Trimming Down

May 9, 2008 By kwmccarthy

Week 5 on Take Shape For Life has been a challenging one.  Still, I am down to 207 – two pounds for the week – twenty-three pounds in five weeks.

My feeding schedule has been all out of whack this week so I've ended up skipping some MediFast/TSFL meals – a no-no that threatens my "fat burning" stage.  Dinner at the Outback last night with some friends visiting from out of town and Mother's Day out to dinner this Sunday will add to the challenge.  I'm learning to manage my restaurant eating to conform to the  Lean and Green approach.

I found two pair of old pants in my closet that fit me – baggy.  I'm holding off going clothes shopping until I get to my goal of 190.  Then again, I don't want to look like a hobo in someone else's oversized pants… but there is a certain satisfaction in gathering my size 38 pants at the waist when I used to fill the size 40s.

My Kids’ Blessing

May 9, 2008 By kwmccarthy

Our children are precious.  This email I received this week was something I just had to share (with Brenda’s permission) about the blessing I give my children and continue to give.  In addition, you can download a free copy to bless your children or grandchildren… even from afar.

Hi, Kevin.  Hope this finds you and your family well.

I want to share a sweet story that goes all the way back to the first time I attended the On Purpose training session in Orlando.  You talked to us about the blessing you say over your children, and gave me a copy of it.  I put it to memory and began saying it to my children often.  Not every day, but several times per week.  I am always amazed at how they soften and smile when I begin saying it—even my 13-year-old who is VERY 13 right now!  A couple of weeks ago I had a particularly challenging day, and to make matters worse I wasn’t feel well.  I decided to go to bed early, and went in my room to lie down.  A few minutes later, Megan, my 9-year-old, came in and got in bed with me.  She reached over, placed her hand on my head and said “God bless Mommy.  Give her a mind to know, eyes to see you….” and said the full blessing over me.  It was a very sweet moment.  I pray she’ll be saying it for many years, and passing it on to her children and grandchildren.  Thanks for the blessing!  I thought you’d like to hear the story.

Brenda

You can well imagine how that email made my day.

Mother’s Day Manners

The Etiquette Answer

(I read this and asked Maralee if I could post it.  She presents an interesting perspective and I like to share good people who are on-purpose. She is both!  Kevin)

I once suffered a miscarriage shortly before Mother’s Day. When I
entered the sanctuary that Sunday, an usher carrying a basket of
carnations greeted me. “Happy Mother’s Day, pretty lady!” He innocently
beamed. “I know you must be a mom! Here’s a flower.” In a sudden daze I
accepted the flower from his hand and rushed to the bathroom crying. I
wish I had known then what I know now about what that flower
represented. It would have made the incident more bearable.

Salespersons TAKE NOTE

May 5, 2008 By kwmccarthy

40Meet my friend, Gordie Allen.

He’s the originator of Power Prospecting™ for sales persons. Gordie and I became friends back in 1993 thanks to The On-Purpose Person and the National Speakers Association. In terms of On-Purpose Customers for us – Gordie is one of our best!  He is constantly sharing books with clients, friends, and anyone who will listen.

Smart, networked, engaged, and always thinking is the way I describe Gordie. Beneath a seemingly gruff exterior is a generous and kind man. If he thinks you should meet someone, he will make it happen.

A blatant plug here for Gordie: Gordie has updated his decades long proven Power Prospecting™ program for today’s wired world. He says, "There had to be a better way to gain ethical access to decision-makers other than the ordeal we sales people face every day. Out of my pain and pride, I began developing a prospecting for a new sales formula." His business development approach is now in an eBook called, Power Prospecting™. Go to www.salesprospectingtips.com to make an investment in growing your commission, sales team, or business.

This is great stuff! Gordie, thanks for being an On-Purpose Person! Kevin

Anne’s Confirmation

May 4, 2008 By kwmccarthy

Today, our daughter Anne, was confirmed at All Saints Episcopal Church in Winter Park where we’ve attended for twenty three years.  Standing behind with hands on her stood her godparents and parents as Bishop John Howe laid hands on her.  In the Episcopal tradition, babies are baptized and received into God’s kingdom in this sacrament.  Godparents commit to help rear the child in God’s way until the child can make a mature commitment to Christ and seeks to receive the Holy Spirit.  So to have her godparents stand there brings both a closure of sorts for them, but a beginning for Anne.

Here is what the bishop says as he laid hands on Anne:  Strengthen, O Lord, your servant Anne with your Holy Spirit;
empower her for your service; and sustain her all the days of her
life. Amen
.

He makes the sign of the cross upon her forehead (as was done in her baptism) both recalling her baptism and affirming her decision to step into her ministry and calling in maturity.

As I step back and think what has taken place in the spiritual realm… it takes my breath away!

Weigh Down

May 3, 2008 By kwmccarthy

Amazing!  Today I crossed the halfway point in my stated weight loss goal.  I am actually down 21 pounds in 4 weeks.  I’m stunned and amazed, but not really now that I understand the TSFL system.  Pardon me for gushing over with excitement.  This TSFL is a system with high predictability.  I’ve been sticking very close to my "fueling schedule" and exercising everyday so I can reach my goal sooner rather than later.  Weight loss is merely the beginning – Phase 1, as TSFL calls it.  Phase 2 – BeSlim is just getting healthier – to optimal health.  Here is a link to my health coaches’ web site: Lori and Wayne Andersen to read more about the program.

Christianne’s Visit

May 2, 2008 By kwmccarthy

On April 11, I shared Christanne’s story of articulating her purpose statement:  I exist to serve by Extending Grace.  She came by the office to visit today.  It was so much fun to listen to her share how her purpose statement is penetrating her soul and everyday experience.
